World Cup Hotties (and Notties)

You may have seen the Interview spread on the American World Cup team, but theirs is certainly not the first to feature the hottest men in soccer. This is for you, Meggo. Sorry I didn’t curate a list for you like I did in 2004, but I’ve been busy at work. For your viewing pleasure:

  1. Vanity Fair: Playing for the World. My personal favorite is Carlton Cole of England here, if only for the Burberry skivvies. I am, however, perplexed by their decision to include Buffon. The photograph is great, but that’s all Annie Liebowitz. Although I suppose since they don’t call this a World Cup Hotties list, it’s supposed to be more artistic. But the guys are still in their unds.
  2. Cosmo: The Hottest World Cup Players. This is the worst hotlist I’ve seen so far. You can’t include David Beckham as number 1 when he’s not actually playing in this year’s World Cup AT ALL. Also, they could have selected a better shot of Ronaldo. And Lampard? Seriously?! What are these editors smoking? (I do like the slide on Raul Gonzalez, though.) I have a feeling they just recycled their list from 2004 and added a South African and North Korean to make it diverse. Also, any list of hot soccer players should definitely include Carlos Bocanegra aka Captain America. USA! USA!
  3. The Daily Beast: World Cup Hotties. A decent list, and it does include Bocanegra. And has the world forgotten Fabio Cannavaro so soon? Just because Italy sucked this year doesn’t mean he lost his sizzle. Although he did shave his head since those steamy pics were taken circa 2003/2004.
  4. The Daily Beast: Soccer Stars in their Skivvies. Maybe we should enforce a no-shirt policy for pro soccer players. I present to you Exhibit A on behalf of the defense.
  5. Global Post: The 10 Least Sexy Soccer Players. I am fairly certain there are unsexier players out there, but no list is perfect.

If you can think of any particularly sexy – or particularly hideous – soccer players, please leave names and links to photos in the comments!
